Porsche 2.7 Carrera RS M472

1973

This car has the most exceptional history. The first owner Mr Edmund Bauthier a wealthy Belgium Industrialist & Entrepreneur had connections at the factory (Baron Von Hanstein, Race Dept. Director) and he requested the car be built to his own personal requirements. Initially the car was destined to be built as M471 Lightweight but Mr Bauthier changed his mind at the very last minute not wanting the M471 lightweight seats as they would be to uncomfortable when he went touring (which he did a lot of) so he changed the order to M472 and specified as options a full black leather interior, no sun roof and manual windows. The engine was hand picked from the production line by his friend Baron Von Hanstein (Race Dept. Director) and the car was delivered to the main French Porsche dealership Son Auto (Paris). It had been hoped the car would be ready for the 1972 Paris Motor Show. Due to the late alteration of the specification order the car delivery was delayed until the end of November about 4 weeks after the show and the Carrera RS’s debut appearance to the world press and the public.

This car is from the first 150 cars produced and it is a largely unknown fact that these very early cars (first 150) had some extra interesting modifications. The most obvious of which was the larger strengthening plates on the underside of the gearbox tunnel. Mr Bauthier owned the car until 1985 which is when Kevin purchased the car and I have owned it ever since. The car has never been in an accident or damaged with the only exception of when Mr Bauthier was driving through the Swiss Alps and a snow chain came loose, this caused a few minor scratches and marks to the right rear wheel arch. The car has always been garaged and is believed to be one of the most original surviving examples of the Marque. We carried out a very sympathetic refresh, our brief as always has been to maintain the integrity and originality of this very rare example as a car of this pedigree truly deserves. The car did not require any major rust repairs, all the floors, kidney bowls, wings, doors, ducktail etc are all the original items and the car has its original service books, tool kit and spare wheel gas compressor. It has a huge history file from day one of its purchase up until now.
