Restoration Complete

The restoration of the 1974 Carrera 3.0RS (9114609029) is now finished. The car is ready for delivery to it’s owner and to be taken to the lawns of Salon Prive next week.

9029 has an amazing history and has been a race car all it’s life, ever since Ecurie Echappement purchased the car from Son Auto in 1974. The car has done the Tour de France Automobile three times coming 3rd and 2nd overall, Le Mans twice and the Monte Carlo Rally once. As well as this the car has done over 100 other races, rallies and hill-climbs.

The brief was to completely restore the car back to it’s 1976 Tour de France livery and specification, whilst preserving the soul of the car. We did this by restoring all original parts and sourcing original parts where needed.

All these years of racing were bound to have put some strain on the chassis of the car so we stripped the car down to bare metal and placed the car on our Cellette jig to check that everything lined up, which it did. This wasn’t to mean that 9029 didn’t require the attention of our metal work department. The car had over 300 hour of metal work, attending to any previous poor repairs and corrosion whilst ensuring that all period correct details where left intact.

Once complete we sent the car to our paint shop where the shell was painted in it’s original factory colour of Grand Prix White. We also ensured that the interior, engine bay, dash areas etc where all painted to exact factory specifications with the satin black in the correct areas.

After returning from paint we then proceeded to build up 9029 with freshly restored and sourced parts. The interior is fitted with the correct type headlining, the original gauges, dash, steering wheel and an NOS lightweight perlon carpet set.

The suspension and brakes are correct with the RSR short rear trailing arms, RSR ARB set up front and rear, 917 brake callipers and Bilsteins shocks all round.

The oil system has the correct cooler,  flexible gearbox and engine oil lines as well as the larger RSR style oil tank.

Countless hours have gone into sourcing correct parts for this car. We’ve sourced correct type RSR Ate brake reservoir bottles, SEV Marchal spot lights as run in the 1976 Tour de France, RSR wing mirror as mounted in period to the passenger wing the list is endless.

3.0RS’s were delivered with 8″ and 9″ x 15″ Fuchs but 9029 still possessed it’s original 8″ x 15″ front and 11″ x 15″ rear Fuchs which we have restored to how they were in the 1976 TDF.

It’s been a joy working on 9029, ensuring that all details have been correct and it’s a restoration that all at Historika are immensely proud of.
