Under new leadership, coupled with a new marketing department, Porsche wanted to produce a Gran Turismo supercar. Porsche chose a clean-sheet design with a fresh approach, and it carved out a timeless classic in the Porsche 928.
The marketing department prepared for the biggest launch in the company’s history. Twelve pre-production prototypes were sent to Nice, France and over the two weeks in late February, press and media agents from around the world trounced the new 928 through the French Alps. They were impressed, and wrote enthusiastically about it in upcoming magazines.
The public’s first look was at the 1977 Geneva Auto Salon, where it was very well received. There wasn’t anything like it at the show. The following year, the 928 was awarded European Car of the Year.
This example is a first year production which in ours and most peoples eyes is the purist form of the Porsche 928 with no spoiler, tele dial wheels and Pasha interior. The car is also fitted with the much more desirable 5 speed manual gearbox and factroy air conditioning which are both it’s original specification.
An Italian specification and delivered car that was produced on 28th of February 1978. The car was delivered to Northern Italy and is believed to have remained in the same family until the current owner bought the car in 2018.
Since coming to the UK we have been entrusted with the up keep of the 928 and believe the mileage of 86,000KMS to be correct and the condition of the car backs this up.
After arriving in the UK the car has also been treated to a full repaint in it’s factory original colour of Metallic Silver Z2. As well as this we carried out a major running gear re-conditioning with new bushes, shocks, steering rack rebuild etc etc. As well as that a major engine service with new cambelt and tensioners. The mechanical work carried by ourselves is just under £10,000 and repaint of the car was over £6,000, equalling over £16,000 spent on the car in the past 18 months. So you can ensure that this 928 will be running and driving exactly as it should be.
The interior of the car is original and is as the Porsche Letter of Origin in black leatherette with blue velour Pasha inlays. The interior is in a good condition with a lovely original patina feel to it. The dash, seats and headlining all look great with no major rips, tears or cracks in them.
The car will be supplied with a new MOT and also the Porsche Letter of Origin. This is a rare opportunity to purchase an unmolested example of the first series 928 that is in great running order and in it’s original factory specifications.
